January 2017

New Years resolutions are made and often forgotten within the same week.
Mine this year is to do a regular post on my web site about things to do and see around the area whilst staying at Cottage Farm Middlewood.

As always little happens outside in January and February but there are always events at The Courtyard in Hereford or Brecon Theatre. Half term week in February will see many of the National Trust properties opening their doors for Easter Egg hunts and wild flower trails with the first of the snowdrops showing.

The Weir Garden just off the Brecon road at the edge of Hereford has a snowdrop walk along with daffodils starting to shoot. It’s time to dust off the walking boots, pop on the woolly hats, scarves, gloves and enjoy a late winter walk. With the tea tent stocked with tea, coffee and soup as well as a slice of cake they are open from Saturday 28 January seven days a week.

Snowdrops and daffodils are the best sign that despite it being cold outside, spring really is just around the corner. If you like history, Herefordshire is the place to explore churches and architecture from across the centuries and many of our churchyards have wonderful displays of wild daffodils, Bacton Church is just one example. A little mist in the valleys or is that dragon's breath in this beautiful county which time has forgotten to change and spoil.
